CSPTA Committees

CSPTA has several active committees that carry out the many activities of the association. Listed below are just a few of the things the committees of CSPTa have done or are working on!

Conference Committee

The conference committee is chaired by the current president. The members include the president elect and the business manager. The purpose of the committee is to begin planning for major events that occur each year for the benefit of the members. Planning includes the educational, vendor opportunities and social events that happen at various locations through out the state. The committee welcomes ideas from all of the membership for activities and presentations that would enhance the professional development of anyone in the pupil transportation industry of Colorado.

Driver Trainer:

This committee is made up of Driver Trainers across the state. Its missions change as the industry changes the vehicles we drive, the behavior management techniques improve or other important and pertinent causes arise. They work closely with CDE to clarify and strengthen the Driver Trainer program offered at CDE's summer workshop.

Jim Dale Committee:

This committee reviews the requests for grants from the membership for Special Projects and Professional Development opportunities. The three members set the guidelines for Jim Dale Fund activities and processes which are presented to the Executive Board and General Membership for approval.

LEG-UP Committee (Legislative and Regulations Update Committee)

Our industry is constantly challenged or supported by what happens at the state level. This committee monitors what bills are being presented in the legislature that may have any transportation related issues affecting our operations. We are committed to work with our state representatives to promote safe and efficient services and each year we are prominent players in their decision making by making our members voices heard. The committee is very active August through April. This committee works closely with the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado State Patrol Motor Carrier Division, and the Commercial Drivers License compliance department regarding DOT rules and regulations, it's interpretations and impact to school districts. Their goal is to be pro-active on behalf of many districts.

Additional Information

Membership Committee

The membership committee has a mission to improve and grow the CSPTA membership.  The committee reviews membership benefits and looks for ways to recruit members to the association.

Roadeo Committee

The mission on the committee is to provide a structure state competition for the drivers of school buses throughout the state of Colorado to demonstrate their ability and knowledge required to operate a school bus safely and to provide their passengers a safe ride to and from school. The competition is conducted in accordance with the rules and procedures used at the International competition that is sponsored by the National School Transportation Association. The State competition is held in June and for the past several years it has been held in conjunction with the CDE summer workshop which has been held in Pueblo. This year the competition has been moved to the Jeffco Training facility and will be held on June 13th. This will be an exciting move that will open some additional opportunities for competitors from all across the state. Information concerning the event will be posted on the CSPTA website in the spring of 2009. If anyone has any questions concerning putting on a local roadeo or details on the construction of event equipment please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to provide you with the information

Service Technicians

This committee continues to work with ASE in providing a representative on the rewrite and test writing of ASE. They developed the Technicians’ Manual that has been used by many school districts across the nation and are currently working on revising this manual. It will soon be available on CD for sale/use. They work very closely with CDE in developing the technicians’ classes for summer workshop and putting together the Technicians’ Contest
